About this Event
The Primary Care Dermatology Society - PCDS, begin in July 1994 by a group of GPs with an enthusiasm for Dermatology. It has grown, and continues to grow, yearly with new members who are keen to improve their knowledge on all things skin.
Their key objectives are:
- To provide an innovative forum for GPs, GPwERs, Nurses, Podiatrists, Clinical & Community Pharmacists and other members of the primary healthcare team with a common interest in dermatology and skin surgery to exchange views and ideas, encourage research and improve patient management.
- To encourage an interest and provide an arena to promote and establish a clearer understanding of dermatology in primary care.
- To create wider awareness and appreciation of the benefits of shared care and to encourage strong links with specialist groups such as the BAD, BDNG, RCGP and patient support groups.
Dermoscopy for absolute beginners is aimed at people who have either:
- l have never had a dermatoscope but are planning on getting one and want to know how to use it before they get one
- l have a dermatoscope but don’t use it because they don’t know how
- I have a dermatoscope in the practice but have not had much (or any) training
- l have been using a dermatoscope a bit, and would like to feel more confident with the basics as a refresher
The course is delivered to a large group of people and offers plenty of opportunity for interaction. If you have a dermatoscope, please bring it with you (and camera if you use one) and the team will be able to help with any troubleshooting queries you may have. If you don’t have a dermatoscope, don’t worry, we have a few we can show you and you can try out. Please note that this course is NOT aiming to make you competent to diagnose early melanomas or difficult atypical naevi or anything too challenging. It is the real basics, including how to use a dermatoscope, keeping it clean, taking good pictures through it, and concentrating on being able to tell the difference between common benign lesions such as seborrhoeic keratoses, BCCs, and melanomas.
Also bring your shopping list as we will have trade stands for you to get your day to day consumables and more specalised tools!
The event will be at Sandy Park Conference Centre, in The Estuary Suite, with ample parking** and there is local accommodation if you wish to stay over the night before. The venue is an easy access for all. Please check out their website but if you have concerns or wish to ask a question please contact us at [email protected]. **Please note parking is not free. There is a charge of £5 for all day that MUST be paid at time of arrival.
There will be a cold finger buffet for lunch along with tea/coffee refreshments during the day. Please ensure that you send an email to [email protected] if you have a particular dietary requirement. This NEEDS to be done as soon as you have booked your ticket as we will only ask once 4 weeks before the event due to the agreed contract with the venue.
