South Street in Exeter has its very own community festival coming up on Sunday 13th March, 1pm – 4pm!Famed historically as the ceremonial entrance into Exeter and the location of some of the city's most important historical structures, local businesses have teamed up with InExeter - the Business Improvement District - to deliver a community focused celebration of the street and its history.
There will be a special road closure in place on South Street for the day to allow visitors to wander through the event on foot, enjoying stalls with Fairtrade, green and sustainable/eco products from local businesses. There will also be local sports clubs and organisations stalls and displays present on the day, promoting their activities and how people can get involved.
As well as this, there will be an interactive art installation from Scott Walker, encouraging people attending to colour in their own section of a specially made South Street Spring Green Festival wall!
Business Champion for the event, Heidi from How on Earth Deli on South Street said:
“We are very lucky to have a strong vegan and sustainable community from the wide variety of independent businesses in Exeter, for that reason we are proud to be part of an event that will celebrate all that the city and surrounding area has to offer. Embracing a plant-based and more sustainable lifestyle is an integral part of improving our health, the environment and the welfare of animals.”
A chance to explore and engage with creative expression and celebrate health and well-being, the event hopes to promote more positive activity for the area, and to shine a light on the history and community South Street has fostered.
Hosted by InExeter, this event brings together local businesses and community organisations to support local and illuminate Exeter’s South Street.
Ava, from local business and award-winning dance studio DanSci, said:
"Community is one of DanSci Dance Studios core values so it’s a huge honour to be included in this event focusing on wellbeing and creative expression. Sharing the physical and mental health benefits of movement and dance to those living in Exeter.”
Pete Kingston, a Community Physical Activity Organiser for Wellbeing Exeter will also be present at the event to spread word on the activities they host:
“Are you interested in getting more active in ways that work for you? Do you have some ideas about what we could do in your community to provide opportunities and activities for local people?
Exeter's Community Physical Activity Organisers (CPAOs) support individuals and communities to make physical activity part of their daily lives and to build community-led, welcoming and long-lasting opportunities in local neighbourhoods.
The CPAOs are hosted by Exeter City Community Trust, working as part of Wellbeing Exeter and Live & Move.”
Join for a day of unique stalls, sports displays and family fun - all whilst supporting local business and community.
