About this Event

Jon Gray, Civic Practice Partnership Artist in Residence, 2020–22, The Met

Carolina Saavedra, Garden Steward, Bruckner Mott Haven Community Garden

Join Civic Practice Partnership Artist in Residence Jon Gray of Ghetto Gastro for a communal celebration in partnership with Bruckner Mott Haven Garden in the South Bronx. The event marks the culmination of Gray’s two-year residency at The Met, where he engaged with global food traditions and objects from across Africa, Asia, and the South Bronx.

Make art, enjoy music, and listen to a conversation between Gray and Carolina Saavedra that explores the connections between community, food, and social structures. Sample complimentary Oaxacan food from Saavedra’s family’s restaurant, La Morada, which aims to preserve and share Indigenous Mexican cuisine and actively participates in social justice causes.

Free, though advance registration is recommended.

Bruckner Mott Haven Garden is located at the intersection of Bruckner Boulevard and East 136th Street near Interstate 278. To arrive via public transportation, take the 6 train to the Cypress Avenue stop.

The event is made possible by the William R. Kenan, Jr. Charitable Trust.

American Sign Language interpretation is provided for the conversation.
