About this Event
Join fellow Indiana Landmarks members for refreshments and holiday cheer at our Holiday Open House in South Bend, one of four festive open houses we’re offering around the state.
One of the city’s best examples of Craftsman-style architecture, the c.1913 Poledor House is best known in South Bend for its 100-year association with the Poledor family, owners of downtown’s beloved Philadelphia Candy Store until the 1970s. Immigrants from Greece, the Poledor family purchased and remodeled the house in 1920. Ted Poledor lived in the home from his birth in 1923 until he passed in 2022. In addition to being noted business leaders and outstanding candy makers, the Poledors were ambassadors to Greece from the United States, hosting many dignitaries in the home.
When the house faced an uncertain future from nearby development, St. Clair Development donated it to Indiana Landmarks, which relocated the house in June 2024 to its current site in the Chapin Park Historic District. Indiana Landmarks is rehabilitating the home for continued single family use, making practical updates while preserving and restoring the home’s outstanding historic features.
The event is free for Indiana Landmarks members. Registration required.
Note on Accessibility: Due to steps required to enter the venue, the Poledor House is not accessible to all. For more information, please contact [email protected].
Feel like traveling? Indiana Landmarks’ South Bend Holiday Open House is one of four—go to one or all: December 3 at the Odd Fellows Building in Salem, December 11 at North United Methodist Church in Indianapolis, and December 16 at the Linwood House in Valparaiso. Registration required at indianalandmarks.org/tours-events.
