A name that needs no introduction.
Widely recognised as the Godfather of UK Garage, Nelson Grant is one of the UK’s most influential DJs, producers and remixers, with a career spanning more than three decades. A true pioneer of the British dance music scene, his productions on the legendary Nice ‘n’ Ripe Records in the early 1990s helped define the sound that would evolve into UK Garage, inspiring generations of artists and producers.
Nelson’s journey began as a teenage DJ and self-taught producer before signing his first record deal under the alias Wishdokta, earning UK chart success and touring extensively across Europe. His passion for pushing musical boundaries led him to co-found Nice ‘n’ Ripe Records alongside George Power, where he crafted a catalogue of underground classics that became the soundtrack to London’s iconic Sunday Scene.
Following the success of Nice ‘n’ Ripe, Nelson launched Swing City Records, an internationally respected independent label responsible for timeless house and garage releases. His production and remix of Negrocan’s “Cada Vez” became a global dance anthem, selling almost two million copies worldwide.
As a remixer, Nelson has worked with an extraordinary list of artists including James Brown, Kelis, Frankie Knuckles, Faithless, Jamiroquai, Mis-Teeq, Simply Red, Gabrielle, Beverley Knight and many more. Under the acclaimed Bump & Flex banner, he helped drive the UK Garage explosion of the late 1990s, delivering a string of club classics and chart hits.
Having performed in more than 35 countries across Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia and the Americas, Nelson continues to captivate audiences with his signature blend of House, Garage and soulful grooves. Combining decades of experience with an unmatched catalogue of classic productions, his DJ sets celebrate the past while embracing the future—making every performance an unforgettable journey through the evolution of UK dance music.
