About this Event

what is soul stories?

soul stories is a gathering that celebrates collective joy, healing and inner child freedom by way of poetry, music, connective conversations and open mic offerings. each soul stories partners with aligned organizations, artists and venues to help create the container for this intimate & inspiring experience. each soul stories invites guests to come as they are, get curious, lean into vulnerabilities, surrender to softness and witness the power of communal story sharing.

meet your host, fanny kearse

fanny, a Black-Queer-Jewish-Disabled human, is a recovering people pleaser & over achiever. a late bloomer, a dreamer & community tender, fanny took nearly a decade worth of experiences as a social worker & doula and headed west to step into the gnawing ache of what it means to live your life as poetry. fanny’s art explores themes of reclamation of land & self, grief as a guide, pain as a portal to the divine and the joy of unbecoming. fanny facilitates poetry workshops in schools, community centres & with corporate clients across the lower mainland, produces events and advises on local arts boards.

meet special guest, river rowan stone

river rowan stone (they/them) is a heart of many questions who seeks to befriend the wilds inside and out. a music therapist by trade, they are ever-curious about finding ways to engage in community co-creation that are rooted in care and possibility. choosing expression over elitism, play over precision, it is their aim to cultivate spaces of belonging.

meet special guest, sue chan

sue is a queer, neurospicy, gender fluid artist based in so called “Vancouver”. their artistry started out as a tiny rebellion from being a good little asian girl and following the path that they thought would make her parents proud. born out of a need to exist truthfully and utilizing creativity as a survival strategy, their work has taken shape into the mediums of poetry, screen acting, and voice over. their work is an ongoing reclamation of play, joy, and their own voice.
