About this Event

Passion is paramount, but passion refined and sublimated so that longing and desire break through ordinary habituated consciousness to point to something unlimited, such as an overwhelming sense of the beyond.

The traditional poetry and music of Iran aim to create a threshold space, a zone of mystery; a psycho-emotional terrain of suffering, melancholy, death and loss, but also of authentic joy, ecstasy, and hope.

In the Persian tradition, music is not only for pleasure, but has a transformative purpose. Sound is meant to effect a change in the listener’s consciousness, to bring them into a spiritual state (hāl).

Sara Saberi is an alignment based Hatha yoga instructor and therapist. Sara loves to help people connect with their bodies in a safe and nurturing way. Her teachings and kind adjustments help you gain an understanding of your body to move and relate to your inner wisdom.

Sara is passionate about making yoga accessible to those with illness and injury, she comes with a strong background and knowledge of appropriate modifications for those with a history of injury. Her continual aim is to bring greater peace and balance through movement, breath and mindfulness. She believes there is a great potential for self-healing in yoga by working with alignment and awareness. She has herself recovered from a traumatic back injury through the practice of yoga.

When Sara was growing up in Tehran, the capital of Iran, yoga was a rare thing. It was only by chance that she ended up at a prominent Iyengar teacher's 42th birthday party. Sara recalls, “the teacher danced and looked like she was 20! How could I not want to try yoga?” That teacher, Elham Badrian, eventually became Sara’s first yoga teacher at Tehran Iyengar Institute, and the experience, nearly 15 years ago, started Sara on her beautiful path to becoming a yoga teacher. Feeling a call to further pursue this path in 2014, Sara sold her car and purchased a one way ticket to India. There, she spent two years practicing and learning yoga under senior yoga teachers (Sharat Arora of HIYC-Dharamsala & Surrender Singh of Swasti Yoga-Rishikesh) There she got her 200 hours certification. Afterward, she returned to Iran to open a modest studio in Tehran where she shared all she learned.

Teaching has since become one of the most rewarding facets of Sara's yoga journey. Sara was lucky to get her 500 hour certification under supervision of the most knowledgeable teachers in the Bay at The Yoga Room Berkeley.

Outside of the world of yoga, Sara is a professional musician. She has been classically trained in traditional Persian music since age 11 and has performed all over the world. She plays barbat, an ancient Persian healing instrument.

Today, Sara teaches throughout the East Bay. Her niche is to host Yoga with Persian classical Fusion events - combining journaling, meditation, restorative yoga, live music and her vocals.
