Be immersed in the majesty of nature when Renée Fleming — the world’s most-famous soprano — comes to EJ Thomas Hall for Tuesday Musical’s Akron Concert Series on Tuesday, April 21, 7:30 p.m.Her "Voice of Nature: The Anthropocene" is much more than a typical concert: While Fleming’s legendary voice fills the hall, the audience will be transported by an original, high-definition film created for this performance by National Geographic: soaring over our planet’s most remote and beautiful locations, from the Amazon Rainforest to the sweeping vistas of Yosemite.
One doesn’t need to be an opera aficionado to be moved. The evening bridges the gap between the traditional and the contemporary, featuring classical favorites from Handel to Puccini as well as modern and cinematic favorites from Björk to excerpts from "The Lord of the Rings."
Pianist Howard Watkins, a native of Dayton, Ohio, will accompany Fleming. He is a frequent associate of some of the world’s leading musicians on the concert stage and as an assistant conductor at the Metropolitan Opera.
The audience will also be able to connect with area nature organizations — the Akron Zoo (with animal ambassadors), Crown Point Ecology Center, Cuyahoga Valley National Park, Sierra Club, Summit Metro Parks and more — in EJ Thomas Hall’s lobbies before the concert and during intermission. Whether you are looking for a new hiking trail, a volunteer opportunity, or simply a way to support local conservation, these experts will be on-site to help you find your next step.
