Ready for a fast-paced filmmaking challenge after dark?
Join Sony United Kingdom for the Sony 6 Hour Short Film Challenge, an adrenaline-filled filmmaking experience based at the Sony Penthouse inside W London, in the heart of Soho.
Open to all skill levels — from beginners to experienced filmmakers — this challenge invites you to compete solo or in teams of up to four (each participant must hold a valid ticket). You’ll sign out a Sony camera and lens, head into the streets of Soho and Chinatown at night, and race against the clock to create a complete short film.
You’ll have six hours total to:
- Sign out your camera
- Capture your footage on location
- Return to the Sony Penthouse
- Edit and submit your final film
Final videos must be posted on Instagram using #SonySohoFilmChallenge, tagging @sony.unitedkingdom, @epgroup.co, and @danieljm.visuals.
What to expect
- A six-hour, high-energy short film challenge
- Solo or team participation (up to four people per team)
- Loan access to Sony Cinema Line and Alpha cameras
- G and G Master™ lenses available (subject to availability)
- Night-time filming across Soho and Chinatown
- On-site editing and final submission at the Sony Penthouse
- A creative, competitive, and community-driven experience
Exact camera models cannot be guaranteed and will be allocated subject to availability.
Talent guidance
You are welcome to arrange your own talent (models or actors).
- Talent requiring access to the Sony Penthouse or internal W London areas must hold a valid ticket
- Talent filmed externally around Soho and Chinatown does not require a ticket

- Filmmakers and creators of all experience levels
- Teams or individuals who enjoy time-based creative challenges
- Anyone looking to experiment with filmmaking under pressure
All camera brands are welcome, though Sony equipment will be provided for the challenge.

Across the weekend, we’ll be hosting 10+ Sony photography and video sessions at the Sony Penthouse at W London.

Who can attend
This event series is open to all ages.
Attendees under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
All participants must hold a valid ticket.
What to bring
- Valid government-issued photo ID plus a secondary form of ID
- Laptop with video editing software and charger (essential for this session)
- Two high-capacity, high-speed SD cards (recommended: 128GB, V30 or higher)
- Water bottle and a small snack
Arrival information
Please arrive 15 minutes before your session start time.
Due to the tightly scheduled programme, late arrivals may not be accommodated and tickets may be forfeited.
W London Hotel arrival instructions:
Take the lift to Level 1 Reception and wait for a Sony or W London team member, who will escort you to the Penthouse at the start of your session.
