Sonicity's exploration uses sound art as a space for collective gathering and to examine how Black sonic expression creates living archives.
About this Event

By centering Black bodies as vessels of memory, Sonicity fills a gap in how we view archives, shifting from documentation to lived experience. The work in collaboration with DJ Afr0delic and DJ MUSE (O) FIRE, reveals the profound influence of Black sonic traditions on global culture while inviting all visitors to feel, rather than simply observe, that legacy. In doing so, Sonicity creates a living archive that bridges ancestral knowledge with contemporary creativity, supporting the cultural and historical significance of these rippling sonic lineages.

Collaborators & Partners:

Graphic Designer - Taro Cantú is neither this nor that*, neither from here nor from there. Born and raised in Mexico City into a Puerto Rican matriarchy, she has spent her life ricocheting between the city and the archipelago. Through her work as a curator and designer, she explores post-coloniality through a distinct diasporic feminist lens. Her comfort in interstitial spaces seduced her into utilizing the hybrids between words, sounds, images, and movements and the mutations between digital, analog, and printed matter to understand the ricocheting nature of post-colonial femininity.

Partner - Black Artist Research Space (BARS) is a creative collective that presents collaboration between artists. The collective combines historical methods of resistance with creative practice in order to build upon an archive that holds a record of what connectivity amongst Black creatives can yield.

Venue - Library Nineteen is a new cultural hub to work, gather, and create. Originally the old Enoch Pratt No. 19 Library, it functioned as a public library from its conception in 1922 until the early 2000’s. The site was purchased by architects Pavlina Ilieva and Kuo Pao Lian in late 2023. In early 2025, the restoration of the building was completed.
