About Marta Elena:
Marta Elena is a Cuban-Canadian singer, composer, and bandleader based in Toronto, whose work bridges Afro-Cuban traditions with contemporary Latin sounds. Trained in Havana and shaped by a career that includes touring internationally with the legendary all-female orchestra Anacaona, she has developed a distinctive voice rooted in tradition yet open to global influences.
Her debut album, De La Habana a Toronto, established her as a compelling presence in Canada’s Latin music scene, blending Cuban heritage with the multicultural energy of her adopted city. With her latest release, Por Amor (2026), Marta Elena delivers her most mature and emotionally resonant work to date.
Deeply grounded in Afro-Latin music, Por Amor expands her sound through elements of salsa, bolero, changüí, rumba, and touches of funk—reflecting both tradition and evolution. The album, produced in collaboration with acclaimed pianist and arranger Hilario Durán, highlights her strengths as both a vocalist and songwriter, featuring a majority of original compositions alongside carefully selected Latin American classics.
With Por Amor, she continues to position herself as a leading voice in Canada’s global music landscape—an artist who honors her roots while pushing Latin music forward with authenticity and vision.
