About this Event
Artist Run Nature Workshops
These workshops are organised by photographic artist Alan McFetridge, Daisy Green’s artist-in-residence at Holland Park. Each month, Alan invites a guest artist or scholar to lead a workshop that brings their practice into dialogue with the park, its rhythms, and its living landscape.
This month’s guest artist is Neelambari Phalkey
How does the park "look" when we stop using our eyes and start using our ears? In this research-led workshop, Neelambari Phalkey guides participants through a synthetic process of translating sound into painting.
Moving beyond traditional landscape representation, we will use "Deep Listening" as a tool to map the hidden rhythms of Holland Park.
Participants will develop a personalised "vocabulary of marks" to capture live acoustic data from the high-frequency twittering of birds to the low-frequency drone of the urban environment creating layered abstract maps using oil pastels and charcoal.

Artist Bio:
Dr. Neelambari Phalkey is a researcher and artist whose practice explores the quiet tension between human systems and the natural world. Drawing on over a decade of research in environmental science and human geography, she translates the staggering abstractions of the climate crisis into tangible visual narratives. Her work serves as an act of emotional processing, grounding data in stories of resilience and shared humanity.
Currently supported by Arts Council England, she integrates traditional media with Machine Learning and sound to visualise environmental change. By blending painting and machine learning tools, she is exploring immersive languages to reflect on ecological fragility and adaptation. Ultimately, her work is an invitation to move beyond data toward a more empathetic, connected response to the world we inhabit.

In 2026, as part of his residency with Daisy Green at Holland Park Café, he is shaping an evolving program by inviting artists he has encountered through chance, synchronicity, natural rhythm, and psychic channels.
