Hopefully we'll all be thawed out in time for what figures to be a real interesting writer's round, with a first-time performer, a second-timer, and a third-timer.Our first time performer is Mexican-American songwriter d.a.l.i.a., who presents a collection of original works in both English and Spanish. She draws from her Western classical music upbringing to write music influenced by her Latin American roots, while exploring themes across the spectrum of the human condition. When not performing solo, she is joined by bassist Jennifer Aikey, guitarist Cameron Rabb, violinist Scott Glasser and percussionist Zach Baker.
After years of producing, arranging, and composing for artists from across the country, and making his second appearance with us, Doug Davis is all-in these days as a solo singer-songwriter. Drawing on decades of experience performing with musicians like Chris Stamey, Mitch Easter, Alejandro Escovedo, Robyn Hitchcock, Mark Kano, and so many others, Davis infuses his classic American roots style with a bit of everything from power pop to folk to indie-rock. He has also built a successful career as a producer and sound engineer at his own studio in Winston-Salem, NC.
We welcome back, for her third appearance, our dear friend Emily Stewart, who played the very first S@S in July of 2022. Emily plays original tunes rooted in the folk, country, and blues traditions of the deep south. She first discovered her voice while perched in a south Alabama church pew as a child, and her vocal stylings are that of a southern siren.
With lyrics and melodies that channel the strength of Odetta, the delicate twang of Kitty Wells, and the forthright softness of Loretta Lynn, Emily finds a song in every story.
