Following his debut at the club in 2023 OLC is delighted that visiting US singer-songwriter Paul Kaplan from Massachusetts has accepted our invitation to join Kent-based Ian Patrie & Rachel Rodwell to complete the line-up.
IAN PETRIE is a singer-songwriter & guitarist who has clocked up over 60 distinguished years playing on the Kent & the South East Folk Circuit as a solo artist, leader of his own band, & currently a resident of the prestigious Dartford Folk Club. His songs are always highly original & entertaining, veering wildly between tragedy & comedy.
RACHEL RODWELL is not only a fine guitarist & interpreter of songs but also writes cracking compositions of her own. During the naughties, she gigged extensively with the highly acclaimed Kent-based folk quartet Larkspur & also played with partner Gary as the Rodwell Incident. Rachel is a fine art illustrator, environmental campaigner & Green Party local counsellor. Her works reflect a love of animals & the countryside around her.
PAUL KAPLAN started playing guitar & writing songs back in 64. His formative years took him from the Chicago folk scene to the coffee houses of New York via the 67 Summer of Love in San Francisco. Early Influences being Bob Dylan, Phil Ochs & Tom Paxton.. His self-penned songs, which include “I’ve Been Told” "Call Me the Whale" & "Henry the Accountant", have been widely covered by other artists. In the Ochs tradition, Paul is not afraid to rework old songs & tunes to reflect the way he sees the changing world & express his concerns for life on planet earth.
From 7.30 pm until 8.10 pm, we're open to floorspots before the guests come on to play the first of their two sets. Singers, musicians, and poets are all welcome. Self-penned material will be welcome but optional.
A cash hat collection goes to the guests in its entirety.
The suggested minimum contribution is £6, but please give a little more if you can afford it.
The club premises and CAMRA award-winning bar will be open on the day from 6.15 pm. It's CARD payments only: free entry to OLC members, £1 to non-members.
