We will attend to the season of long dark nights by learning a variety of Slavic winter calendar and ritual polyphonic songs. Over the course of the three-hour workshop, participants will have the opportunity to learn 4 or 5 songs in a choral context, with support from Ekaterina, Aleksandra, and Alison, learn about the cultural context of each song, consider pronunciation and musical technique and sing together. We welcome beginner through advanced singers. While sheet music will be provided, you can also learn by listening and singing along. No experience with music reading or knowledge of Slavic languages required.Registered participants will receive recordings and sheet music a week before the workshop (via Google Drive). There will be a teakettle and a selection of herbal teas available to keep our voices warmed up. We will take a short break halfway through the workshop.
