Join us for an exploration of how stories, song, and language connect us to each other and to the living systems which we rely on!
Stories, songs, language and local traditions hold a wealth of knowledge about the places we live.
Dr Mairi McFadyen works at the fascinating intersection of culture, community and the natural environment. In this year's Annual Biosphere Isle of Man Lecture , she explores how cultural heritage can help reconnect us with the living systems that sustain us and inspire positive action for the future.
As we weave through Blein ny Gaelgey / The Year of Manx , her work offers a timely and inspiring reflection on the deep connections between language, culture and environment – highlighting how the Manx language and cultural traditions are rooted in, and can help shape, a more sustainable future for the Island and our UNESCO Biosphere.
The Biosphere Lecture opens the 2026 UCM Research Festival , being held on Friday 23 October at the Villa Marina - find out more here: https://www.ucm.ac.im/rf26
