About this Event
Youthful performers aged 9 to adult from Vietnam, Turkey, Madagascar, Italy, Germany, Finland, Jamaica, Costa Rica, Venezuela, and USA will be in Minnesota in July to present an inspiring, educational, thought-provoking, and highly entertaining concert of global songs from their countries. Much more than a choir, the new Songs of Hope company of performers will excite and entertain audiences of all ages with a rich program of singing, dance, movement, cultural dress, and live music centered on the songs of their many cultures - with a special, global exploration of songs that have moved and inspired people over the years in their struggles for justice, equality, and freedom.
The upcoming concert tour marks the thirty-first installment of annual Songs of Hope music project. Over the years, the local project organizers, St. Paul residents Jeanne Junge and Tom Surprenant, have attracted talented performers to Minnesota from more than forty countries throughout the Americas, the Caribbean, Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and Africa, with literally hundreds of songs presented over three decades. Music for the newest concert will be by an outstanding ensemble of musicians, including Cheryl Kramer on keyboards, Angel Diaz on drums, and Big Bob Scoggin playing guitar.
For its main concert, which caps a 12-city, 25-venue tour visiting many parts of Minnesota (and even a little into Wisconsin), Songs of Hope will return for a second time to Celtic Junction, a wonderfully intimate venue that draws audiences close to the charming and energetic Songs of Hope performers to give them a truly memorable experience. For the project organizers, Celtic Junction is the ideal setting for a concert designed to inspire people to embrace and share the richness and beauty of other cultures, and it is with great excitement that they are returning. Join the adventure!
