About this Event
Our Dec 3rd event features Lilli Lewis, Ashley Beach, Timeless, Sariyah Idan, and will raise funds for field trips for Bard Early College New Orleans.
SONGS FOR THE PEOPLE is a monthly seasonal event featuring 4 original artists “in the round” benefitting a different organization each month. Artists perform 2 pieces per round, 3 rounds. This format allows artists to be influenced by each other, for the songs and poems to be in conversation. Hosted and curated by Sariyah Idan. Suggested $10-20, NOTAFLOF.
BARD EARLY COLLEGE improves the transition from high school to college by offering tuition-free, liberal arts programs that allow high school students to start college earlier. The program seeks to increase access to higher education, especially for underserved communities, and prepare students to succeed in college and their future civic lives through intellectual curiosity and engagement.
LILLI LEWIS: Athens, Georgia native turned New Orleans FolkRockDiva, Lilli Lewis is an award-winning performing artist who displays “storytelling with transformative empathy and classically trained poise.” Jewly Hight, NPR.org. Lewis has been Lauded by NPR, Rolling Stone, and Offbeat Magazine, and her most recent release All Is Forgiven, is out now on Righteous Babe Records.
ASHLEY BEACH is a singer, guitarist, songwriter, and band leader hailing from New Orleans, LA. Her music draws from influences around the globe and across time. Melodies and rhythms from New Orleans, the Caribbean, Central and South America, and Appalachia are woven into her uplifting playful music.
TIMELESS is a narrative artist rooted in Bvlbancha: The Place of Many Tongues (New Orleans). He explores story in its many forms and wonder; live performance, film, prose, poetry, song, puppetry, pantomime…
SARIYAH IDAN is a singer-songwriter, bandleader, community organizer, and street performer dedicated to creating spaces of catharsis, healing, social justice, and intersectionality. She has rocked iconic national and international venues and is known among both locals and tourists as “the most haunting voice of the French Quarter streets”. She launched SONGS FOR THE PEOPLE in 2023.
