WEDS NOV 4th 7-10pm Songs For The People is back at Cafe Istanbul with songwriters Uriel, Roy's Orb, poet Edith Romero, and host Sariyah Idan. All proceeds will benefit Grow Dat Youth Farm. Suggested $10-20 at the door, no one turned away. Enter through the back door of the healing center on the corner of St Roch and Rampart streets.
GROW DAT YOUTH FARM: At Grow Dat, people from different backgrounds come together to create a more just and sustainable food system. On our farm, we work collaboratively to grow food; educate and inspire youth and adults; and build power to create personal, social, and environmental change.
URIEL: Uriel is a dedicated and blossoming musician based in Louisiana, drawing inspiration from blues, jazz, R&B, rock and roll, and Folk. Her passion for music led her to dedicate her life to singing, songwriting, and creating music that spreads love and light to everyone she encounters.
EDITH VELASQUEZ ROMERO is a New Orleans based cuir Honduran writer, researcher, and organizer. Edith aims to highlight immigrant voices through the lenses of reproductive justice and immigrant justice. Edith’s writing has been published by IPAS, LatinoNewsNetwork, Truthout, and NACLA. Edith envisions art and storytelling as a tool for social change, and healing, exploring the intergenerational harms of imperialism, colonialism, displacement, and the ever present resistance movements born out of struggle.

RYAN’S ORB: Ryan Carr of Roy’s Orb is a third generation musician from northern Georgia, and is also an outdoor guide. He ran a music venue in Missoula Montana for many years and has been performing all over the country since 2015. The first Roy’s Orb record was recently on Full Tilt Records.
SARIYAH IDAN Known as “the most hauntingly beautiful voice of the French Quarter streets”, Sariyah is an internationally touring New Orleans based singer-songwriter, originally from the Catskill foothills of Woodstock NY. Her percussive style and intoxicating stage presence stem from background as a dancer. She weaves unique sonics with poetic lyrics addressing struggle, love, social justice, and healing.
