On Saturday 22 November, 3pm at St Andrew’s Church, Weald Drive, Furnace Green, Crawley RH10 6NU, Phoenix Choir of Crawley will present an afternoon concert of music inspired by the works of Shakespeare and other poets. Guest soprano soloist, Brittany King, will join with the choir to sing ‘In Windsor Forest’ and will sing three solo pieces – 'Ah, je veux vivre' (Juliet’s waltz) from the opera 'Romeo and Juliet' by Gounod, Roger Quilter's rapturous setting of Shelley's poem 'Love's Philosophy', and Vaughan Williams’ setting of Dante Gabriel Rossetti’s 'Silent Noon'.Our MD, George Salmon, is also a talented baritone. He will sing a setting of 'To Althea, from Prison', a poignant poem by Richard Lovelace expressing the theme of freedom in confinement, emphasising that true liberty comes from the mind and spirit rather than physical surroundings.
