About this Event
Join multicultural music trio Singing The Bones for an intimate afternoon of community song at our Venice Apothecaryon Sunday, April 20th from 2-4pm.
Lydia, Kele and M’Gilvry weave together songs from Persian, Armenian, Congolese, Haitian, Appalachian, and Celtic traditions, teaching them by ear so everyone can participate. In this time of great conflict, we feel it is more important than ever to remember how our ancestors used singing together as a medicine - to celebrate, to grieve, to work, and to heal. This gathering is not a performance - it is an invitation to be part of an ancient technology for practicing community resilience through shared voices and shared breath. No experience is needed; all are welcome

is a musical collaboration weaving together diasporic traditions through song and story. Lydia Violet, of Persian and Armenian heritage, founded the School for the Great Turning and is a keeper of Joanna Macy's Work That Reconnects. Kele Nitoto, raised in Oakland's rich cultural landscape, is a master drummer, teacher and keeper of African diasporic rhythmic traditions from Congo to Haiti and beyond. M'Gilvry Allen brings Celtic fiddle traditions, having grown up immersed in the folk music communities of the West Coast. This project grew out of a class taught by Lydia Violet and Leah Song (of Rising Appalachia) that invites participants to explore their ancestral musical lineages.
