American Soprano Tiffany Herring Ruffini, accompanied by pianist Shari Spicknall. This event will combine recitals from international composers of the 16th through 21st centuries. Each selection will be elucidated and translated by the performers, referencing the storylines, history, and relevance of each. We will be printing programs for our participants that include translations and the operatic stories behind each selection. The presentation will include a discussion of the evolution of vocal and orchestral styles, the use of language in music, the development of performance venues and opera houses, castrati, and women as performers. Ms. Rufini's lecture/recital is titled "A History of Italian Opera in Eight Vocal Pieces".
