Help Central Street Studios artists bridge the funding gap for the Arts & Business Council to keep the studios (w/support from Somerville).
Although Paul & Karen Morse, Nancy Dutton & David Benton have owned, upkept & stewarded the affordable artist workspaces at Central Street Studios for over 40 years, it's time to thank them for their service & let the Arts & Business Council (ABC) take the reigns into the future.
As artists and creative business owners, its always been the owners’ mission for the next owner to keep the creative community intact, as affordable artist workspaces in Somerville. So they’ve been working with Jim Grace & the nonprofit, mission-driven ABC to become an official Creative Campus project -- for ABC to own and operate the studio community as they do at Western Avenue Studios in Lowell.
With significant support from Mayor Katjana Ballantyne & the City of Somerville, grant funds & donors, ABC is poised to purchase the property and honor the owners’ wishes.
With everyone doing their own parts, the three-dozen current artists, musicians & creatives at Central Street Studios have launched their own online fundraiser to help bridge the gap to get the purchase over the finish line. Aiming to raise $100,000, donations of $100-499 will be thanked with a limited-edition hand-screen-printed campaign t-shirt. Donations of $500-900 will be thanked with the donor's name in the Silver Paintbrush Circle on a permanent placard at Central Street Studios. Donations of $1000+ will be thanked with the donor's name in the Gold Paintbrush Circle permanent placard at Central Street Studios. The fundraiser may be found at www.centralstreetstudios.org and at https://artsandbusinesscouncil.org.
