About the piece:

SOMEPLACE FUN is an evening-length song cycle for SATB soloists and piano, spanning art songs, ensemble numbers, and poetic interludes. It is an exercise in preserving and communicating the feeling of time slipping away, of existing on the precipice of great tragedy and feeling its shadow descend on all things. Born out of my mother's terminal cancer diagnosis, this is a living work that reflects the existential despair, black humor, and quiet peace that alternate to form our new, temporary, normal. The door to the Final World is breaking open, and beyond its boundary, we all anticipate different things. Someplace Fun envisions many forms such a world might take, as well as offering space to process the journey involved in getting there.
