Solstice Tarot Collage Workshop with Birdhouse Press

Celebrate the Summer Solstice with an afternoon of creativity, symbolism, and self-expression. In this collage workshop, you’ll create your own personal tarot-inspired artwork using the rich iconography of a tarot deck. Whether you’re deeply familiar with tarot or simply drawn to its imagery, this workshop invites you to explore intuition, storytelling, and visual composition.

Inspired by Liam of Birdhouse Press' artistic process, guests will pull images from tarot designs to create something new and unique. Participants will have access to a wide variety of materials including prints of tarot cards and symbols, vintage magazines, paper scraps, and unique misprints from Birdhouse Press. Guests will learn simple collage techniques while crafting a one-of-a-kind piece that reflects their energy, intentions, or inspirations for the season ahead.

Final collages will be created in an easy-to-frame 5" x 7" format. All materials are provided, and no prior art experience is necessary.

This workshop is a part of our ARTCELERATE program, featuring local artists' work within our space. Birdhouse Press will feature a show called “Arcana Aspects”, a series of letterpress prints dedicated to the symbolism of tarot cards. The designs were made using the Rider-Waite-Smith deck which was illustrated by Pamela Coleman Smith in the early 1900’s. These subtle versions of the major arcana cards use key pieces from the original drawings to highlight the cards’ meanings and complexity.

Liam of Birdhouse Press is a designer and printmaker with a love for vintage illustration and symbolism. He created a series of prints, stickers and pins inspired by tarot cards and collage. After leaning on the iconic deck during some difficult times in his life, it is his hope that this work can help folks find comfort and meaning in tarot as well.
