Solstice Song Circle
About this Event
You are invited to a Solstice Song Circle around the fire!
We will be singing simple and nourishing songs, accessible to all levels of singing abilities.
We sing songs that will uplift and ground you. We sing songs about nature, grief, love, peace, gratitude, and community. Some of our favourite songwriters are Paul Barton, Steph Drouin, Kate Sutherland, Ahlay Blakely, Samara Jade, Sarina Partridge and Alexa Sunshine Rose.
Community singing is a way of singing together that is accessible to all. We don't sing for performance or to sound amazing, we sing to connect with our hearts and each other. We sing rounds, 3-part layer songs, harmony songs and medecine songs.
All voices are welcome. Even if you don't identify as a singer, you are more than welcome to join us. We sing for the joy and nourishment it brings. One of our mottos is 'connection not perfection', courtesy of one of our mentors - Mila Redwood.
No experience is necessary, songs are taught orally through call and response, so there is no need to read sheet music.
We believe in the power of music and singing to build community and help us feel more connected.
This event will take place at the Withrow Park fire pit, just west of the basketball court. The park is located between Pape and Carlaw subway stations.
The event is PWYC, with a suggested donation of $5-$10, cash or e-transfer to [email protected]
Please bring something to sit on if desired, for instance, a beach chair or a blanket.
You are very welcome to join us! We look forward to joining our voices in nourishing song.
