Recipient of the 2022 Avery Fisher Career Grant, 29-year-old American pianist Mackenzie Melemed is one of the most celebrated and experienced performers of his generation. Melemed completed three degrees (Bachelor, Master, Artist Diploma) at the Juilliiard School. He has performed at The White House five times, and at the age of 5 he appeared on the Rosie O’Donnell Show as one of her youngest guests ever. In recent years, his awards have included the following: 2021 American Pianist Award, 2019 Jade Medal at the China International Music Competition, 2019 Juilliard’s Leo B. Ruiz Carnegie Hall Recital Prize, 2018 Arthur Rubinstein Prize, 2017 1st Prize and Chamber Music Prize at Maj Lind International Piano Competition, and 2016 Gina Bachauer Piano Competition.
Mackenzie’s program includes the following repertoire: Partita No.1 in B-Flat Major BWV 825 by Johann Sebastian Bach, Impromptus Op.5 by Robert Schumann, Funérailles by Franz Liszt, Sonata 1.X.1905 by Leoš Janáček, Variations on a Theme of R. Schumann Op.9 by Johannes Brahms, and Ballade Op.6 by Amy Beach.
Melemed’s appearance in South Bend is underwritten by IMTA, Saint Mary’s College, and a grant from South Bend Area Music Teachers Association Stickley Scholarship Fund.
