Solo Exhibition: 'Kleidoti Tori' by Steven Dahlberg

Join us on Saturday June 20, for the first exhibition by Steven Dahlberg.

Kleidoti Tori explores the hidden language and forms of traditional agnisa headscarves: folded pieces of heritage, part of the koto misi, which were worn during the era of slavery as silent forms of communication. As a fashion stylist of Surinamese descent, Steven has always been affected by the power, elegance and symbolism of the koto misi. Now, as an artist, he translates his cultural roots into sculptures in which history, texture and ceramic forms come together.

Kom op zaterdag 20 juni naar de eerste solotentoonstelling van Steven Dahlberg.

Kleidoti Tori onderzoekt de verborgen taal en vormen van de traditionele agnisa-hoofddoeken: gevouwen erfgoedstukken, onderdeel van de koto misi, die tijdens de slavernij werden gedragen als stille vormen van communicatie. Als modestylist van Surinaamse afkomst is Steven altijd geraakt geweest door de kracht, elegantie en symboliek van de koto misi. Nu vertaalt hij als kunstenaar zijn culturele roots naar sculpturen waarin geschiedenis, textuur en keramische vormen samenkomen.
