The Solihull Approach to Understanding Your Child 10-week Programme in Hurley Primary School
About this Event

Please note: This programme is for parents/carers from Hurley Primary School ONLY

A Solihull Approach group for parents and carers facilitated by Family and Relationship Support Team (previously known as Parent Programme Trainers ) and Child and Family Worker from Hurley Primary School.

'Understanding Your Child' is intended for parents and carers who want to know more about sensitive and effective parenting. It aims to develop a framework of thinking about parent/child relationships that can be developed into a lifelong skill. This in turn promotes effective behaviour management.

The programme explores issues such as:

  • Tuning into children
  • Exploring feelings
  • Parenting Styles
  • Communication and what may be being communicated through behaviour
  • Temper tantrums and anger - why they happen and how to support your children to regulate their emotions
  • Sleep
  • Behavioural difficulties

This is a great opportunity to meet other parents. Age groups covered are from 0-4, 4-11 and 11-18 yrs. Our experienced trainers will adapt the programme to use scenarios appropriate to the different ages of children whose parents/carers attend the group.

This programme aims to promote parent's understanding of behaviour in the context of their child's development. It promotes the relationship between child and parent and acknowledges that parenting can be challenging, therefore one of the main aims and outcomes reported by parents who have attended the programme is that it increases their confidence as a parent and helps them to respond to their children's needs and behaviours in a way that is beneficial to both child and parent.

This group is based in Hurley Primary School and starts on Friday the 22nd March 2024 with a coffee session. There are NO sessions during Easter half term.

The programme starts on the 12th April and runs weekly for 10 sessions from the 9:30-11:30 until 21st June with a break during May half term.

To ensure that you are joining the most suitable programme for your family's needs, group facilitators will make contact with you on the contact number you provide on the booking form prior to the group commencing.
