Panel Conversation: Genocide in Gaza and the End of the Liberal World Order
Western governments, including the UK, have provided military, diplomatic and political support to Israeliās genocide in Gaza. Their opposition to legal proceedings against Israel in the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and the International Criminal Court (ICC) has led many to ask if the current liberal order - bound by human rights, international law, and universal principles - is collapsing. Others, however, maintain that Western efforts to shield Israel from accountability reveal the deeper interests that have long underpinned the international system. In this light, the panel will discuss the background to the current genocide and how the South African case against Israel at the ICJ is part of a broader struggle taking place at the United Nations, in the courts and on the streets.
