Go from being a newbie to a competent solderer, and leave our course with your own LED pendant!
About this Event

Instructor: Diane Hoffoss

We'll teach you the purpose of all the soldering equipment and give basic soldering instruction. You'll get lots of hands-on practice with a variety of soldering techniques, and will end the class making your own LED pendant.

Course Schedule:

Demonstration (30 mins): We'll begin with an introduction to the equipment and their purposes and discuss safety concerns. We'll then demonstrate good soldering technique, and also some examples of poor soldering technique, with an indication of how to tell if your soldering joint is good.

Hands-on Practice (30 mins): After the demonstration, you'll settle in to a soldering station outside, and practice doing some soldering joints of your own, including both through-hole and surface mount practice. We will be there to coach you, check your work, and help you troubleshoot.

Final project (1 hour 30 mins): When you have some confidence with your technique, you can use your newfound knowledge to create an LED pendant to take home with you!

Skills instilled: Students will feel confident using a soldering iron to start making their own projects.

Cost: $15 will cover the use of all materials and soldering equipment needed for the course, plus the materials and LEDs for the final pendant.

Students should bring:

If you have your own soldering iron, you should bring it, so that you become familiar with your own equipment. We will have irons available for use for students who don't have their own.

Prerequisites: N/A
