Gilles Peterson returns to Sydney for Worldwide — a one-off day party celebrating soulful sound, global rhythm and boundaryless dance music. Taking place at Liberty Hall Courts on Saturday November 15, the event brings together a global community who speak the same musical language: eclectic, forward-thinking, and rooted in connection.
Peterson’s return couldn’t be more timely. Jazz has re-entered the cultural mainstream — woven into headline festival sets, major club records, and a new generation of genre-blurring artists. It’s a shift Gilles helped pioneer long before it had a name. For over four decades, Gilles Peterson has ostensibly brought alternative music out of the club side rooms and into the popular consciousness. To put it simply he joins the dots. A master curator who has always demonstrated the connectivity and influence forged in dance movements.
Peterson has been instrumental in reshaping the sound of alternative music — bringing acid jazz, broken beat, Brazilian rhythms, jungle, and spiritual jazz to listeners worldwide. From pirate radio to BBC 6 Music, from Dingwalls sessions to We Out Here Festival, his reach has always been about community, movement, and musical freedom.
Now, Worldwide distills that mission into one afternoon in Sydney.
Joining him is Kirollus. Leading at the forefront of a new wave of disco and boogie, the London based selector is known for his electric stage presence and enviable record collection. He has rapidly become one of the world’s most compelling new party starters, lighting up the stages of iconic institutions such as KOKO, Printworks, Ministry Of Sound, to clubs all over Europe. Keeping the essence of rare groove alive for generations to come, he’s showing no signs of slowing down in his pursuit to uplift, unify and inspire the lives of others through the power of sound.
Rounding out this open-air, love affair is Mazzacles. The Club 77 resident and regular on FBi Radio, has quickly stamped herself as one of the next generation’s true musical stewards. Her deep understanding of soulful club sounds and her ability to weave the classic and obscure has made her a vital voice in the city’s new wave.
Presented in partnership with Fanático Records - purveyors of global dance treasures, the day will also feature curated crates and exclusive finds for diggers and DJs alike.
Worldwide is a space for dancers and deep listeners alike. A celebration of where jazz meets the club, where heritage connects with new energy, and where music becomes a shared language.
