Chris Helme is best known as the unmistakable voice of The Seahorses, the band formed in 1996 by legendary guitarist John Squire following the split of The Stone Roses.Helme and Squire met in the mid 90s after Squire placed an advert looking for a vocalist. Helme's demo stood out immediately. His voice had grit, soul and melody in equal measure. The partnership quickly became one of the most talked about collaborations of the Britpop era.
The Seahorses' debut album Do It Yourself reached No.2 in the UK Albums Chart and produced the Top 10 single Love Is The Law, alongside hit singles including Blinded By The Sun and Love Me and Leave Me, co-written with Liam Gallagher. The band were regulars on Top of the Pops, played major festivals including Glastonbury Festival, and toured arenas across the UK and beyond, building a reputation as a powerful live act during the height of Britpop.
Since then, Chris has built a respected solo career spanning three decades. His songwriting has evolved into something deeply personal and emotionally resonant, blending his Britpop roots with acoustic warmth and reflective storytelling.
After a busy year touring his latest album World Of My Own, Chris returned to the studio to record stripped back versions from across his 30 year catalogue.
Forest For The Trees Vol 1 is the first in an ongoing series. It features beautifully reimagined versions of classics such as Love Me and Leave Me, Standing On Your Head and You Can Talk To Me, alongside intimate reinterpretations from World Of My Own. These recordings place the focus firmly on voice, lyric and melody, revealing new depth within the songs.
Now he is taking Forest For The Trees back on the road. Expect a night that is raw, soulful and honest. Thirty years into his career, Chris Helme remains an artist who truly connects with his audience.
He will be performing live at The Hart on 29 July 2026 for what promises to be a very special evening.
