Sol Dance Presents: Poranguí - Day of the Dead - w/ special guest Biko Casini (of Rising Appalachia)
Schedule
Sun Nov 02 2025 at 06:00 pm to 10:00 pm
UTC-05:00Location
520 Northside Dr SW, Atlanta, GA 30310-2057, United States | Atlanta, GA
This evening is a homecoming. A full-circle moment. Three years ago, Poranguí first graced our Atlanta dance floor, weaving sound and spirit into the roots of a community that has since blossomed and deepened in ways none of us could have fully imagined. Together, we’ve danced through seasons of change — emerging stronger, more connected, and ready to meet this next threshold with open hearts.
Prepare to embark on a transcendent journey with the world-renowned musician, healer, and educator Poranguí as he returns to Atlanta—joined by visionary co-facilitator Ashley Klein. Together they extend an invitation into an embodied experience that bridges the seen and unseen, a ritual of sound, movement, and presence that leaves us more whole, alive, and deeply connected.
Poranguí’s live improvised performances—enriched with captivating visual projections—become living ceremonies. They call us to remember the ancient Quechua concept of Chakaruna—the World Bridger. “Chaka” meaning bridge; “Runa” meaning people. This sacred duty asks us to connect the tangible and the intangible, Earth and Spirit, the individual and the collective. Through this offering, we are invited to step into our own roles as Chakarunas—threads in the vibrant tapestry of life, synchronizing with the heartbeat of the Earth.
Joining them is multi-instrumentalist Biko Casini (of Rising Appalacia), opening the space with grounding percussion and soulful melodies to prepare the dance floor for what’s to come.
Through music, movement, and presence, we’ll step across the threshold together —honoring ancestors, honoring self, honoring community. This is the season of harvest and release, of facing the mysteries and dancing with them anyway.
🎃 Come adorned, or as you are — whether to honor your lineage, express your shadows, or embody your wildest, most playful self.
🕯️ Expect a night of deep ritual, world music, dance, a full artisan market, and communal celebration—rooted in reverence, lifted by joy, and carried by the heartbeat of a growing tribe.

🌿 EVENT GUIDELINES:
Come Clear
We offer a substance-free space—no drugs or alcohol are allowed at Sol Dance. We invite you to experience the natural high of movement, breath, music, and genuine connection.
Practice Consent
Consent is a cornerstone of our community. Always ask for permission before involving others in your dance or taking photos/videos. We teach a simple gesture during the Opening Circle (hands in prayer at heart) as a universal signal to opt out of connection.
Be Present
To maintain the integrity of the dance space, we ask that phones stay off the dance floor. You’re welcome to take consensual photos or videos outside of the dance space. Let’s keep the floor sacred—just you, the music, and the moment.
Honor the Non-Verbal Space
Once the music begins, we invite you to let go of verbal communication. Instead, connect through movement, breath, and energy. This helps cultivate a deeper presence and respect for the shared space.
Dance Barefoot (or Close To It)
We meet on common ground—barefoot, in socks, or supportive dancer shoes. Feel the earth beneath you and connect more deeply with your body and the dance floor.
Embrace Your Freedom
There’s no choreography here—just free-form, intuitive movement. Follow what feels true in your body, whether that’s stillness, wild expression, or gentle flow. You are free to move however you wish.
Welcome Vulnerability
Every emotion is welcome on the dance floor. This is a space where joy, sadness, release, and raw expression can be held with compassion. Trust the wisdom of your body and let your emotions move through you.
Bring Self-Reliance
Honor your boundaries, speak your needs, and stay hydrated. We trust you to arrive centered and empowered, ready to take responsibility for your own well-being and presence.
