About this Event
Location: 706 Gilbert St, Durhma
Our mission is packed into a fast-paced 90-minute investigation, transforming the garden into a living dataset:
Part 1: The Briefing — Cracking the Soil Code (25 Min)
- Texture Tactics: Master the art of Sand, Silt, and Clay. We’ll learn how their secret ratio decides if a plant gets a swimming pool or a desert!
- The pH Filter: Discover why soil acidity acts like a biological gatekeeper, controlling exactly which "snacks" (nutrients) a plant can eat.
Part 2: The Field Op — Sampling the Grid (35 Min) Teams will deploy across SEEDS to collect crucial intel from four distinct "Micro-Environments":
- Garden Beds: The high-energy nutrient zones.
- Compost Pile: The secret engine of organic power.
- Shade Zone: Investigating how shadows change soil moisture and cooling.
- Compacted Path: Decoding how foot traffic changes the soil's physics!
- Lab Time: Use professional pH strips, the legendary "Ribbon Test" for texture, and moisture-by-feel calibration to analyze your samples.
Part 3: The Map — Visualizing the Hidden World (30 Min)
- Gradients Galore: We’ll plot our findings on a giant master grid to reveal hidden "Gradients"—the changes in chemistry that happen across a single acre!
- Data Detective Work: Learn how to use your data as a "Proxy Measurement," predicting exactly how big and strong a plant will grow before you even plant a seed!
