Sohrab Pournazeri & Sahar Mohammadi Boroujerdi
Two Of Contemporary Persian Music's Most Distinctive Voices Unite Persian And Kurdish Traditions.
Two of the most distinctive voices in contemporary Persian music meet on one stage. Vocalist Sahar Mohammadi and multi-instrumentalist Sohrab Pournazeri bring together Persian and Kurdish musical traditions with poetry, improvisation and a strong contemporary expression.
Sohrab Pournazeri is one of Iran's most celebrated musicians and composers, known for his virtuosic playing on the tanbur, kamancheh and setar, among other instruments. Born into the renowned Pournazeri family of musicians, he began performing at a young age with the legendary Shams Ensemble, and has since developed a personal musical language where Persian and Kurdish traditions meet an exploratory, contemporary sound. As a composer and instrumentalist, he has collaborated with some of the greatest names in Iranian music, including Mohammad Reza Shajarian and Homayoun Shajarian, as well as with international musicians and orchestras.
Sahar Mohammadi is one of the leading vocalists of the new generation in Persian classical music. With a powerful, expressive voice and a deep understanding of the subtle ornamentation of the Persian vocal tradition, she combines technical brilliance with a commanding stage presence. Trained in Persian classical singing as well as the traditional setar and tar, she has performed internationally at venues and festivals including the Théâtre de la Ville in Paris and the Fès Festival of World Sacred Music.
