Fourmile Mountain Bike Park is a new park on 50 acres of wooded land north of Copper Creek Lake.
Central Iowa Trail Association and Polk County Conservation are working together to create integrated trails and green spaces that will serve as recreation and conservation areas for the entire community. The project goal is to provide a soft surface trail system oriented towards recreational mountain biking, hiking, trail running, and groomed trails for winter fat biking.
• From East University Avenue, turn north on Williams Street and travel 0.5 miles to Washington Avenue (no sign) and turn right.
• From Easton Boulevard, turn south on E 42nd and travel 0.5 miles to to Washington Avenue (no sign) and turn left.
• Park in the gravel lot. We will leave from there at 10:00 a.m.
We will head north on old 42nd and enter the trail system. We will turn left and take the two-way trail to the top of the jump lines where we can peer over. We will continue around, cross over the creek, and make a clockwise loop around the perimeter before we return on pre-existing trail. I estimate the total mileage will be about 2.0 miles.
If the dirt trail is muddy, we will walk the paved trail around the lake. Either way, we will walk slowly, think “stroll,” and no one will be left behind.
Fourmile Mountain Bike Park is still under construction. Hiking poles are useful, particularly where we cross construction access and on the hills, but not a necessity.

I lead group walks on different trails a few times a month. This free series is designed to help people looking for a simple way to become more active and to increase appreciation of our local soft trails.
What is a soft trail? Simply, it is an unpaved trail. Its surface may be dirt, grass, or crushed rock/gravel. I am an avid mountain biker and know all these trails very well. I can guarantee that no one will get lost!
