Josh Halpern, founder and artistic director of the Cultural Caravan, is joined by Nathan Meltzer, 2nd prizewinner of the 2022 Sibelius Violin Competition in Helsinki, for a humorous romp through serious and not-so-serious repertoire for solo violin, solo cello, and violin and cello duo, including music never intended to be shared between these two instruments, such as Bach’s famous two-part inventions. Josh and Nathan also perform as part of the Emil Piano Trio with pianist Yannick Rafalimanana, with whom they present a program at the Boulder Public Library’s Canyon Theater on Sunday, April 2.
“Joshua Halpern approached difficult passages masterfully, with a natural, easy technique and a powerful, projecting tone that left nothing to be desired.”
— Westdeutsche Zeitung
“Meltzer draws from [the Ames, Totenberg Stradivarius] a hugely cultivated sound, with a sweetness to his tone and gorgeously shaped legato lines. As with his teacher Itzhak Perlman, Meltzer’s technique is of the sort that rarely draws attention to itself but enables a full expressive command of whatever he is playing. It is surely only a matter of time before a larger record label snaps him up.”
— Gramophone
