Set in Bedfordshire, Ish follows two best friends at the tail end of childhood, forced to enter adolescence when racial profiling, followed by a traumatic police stop-and-search, tears the two apart. Ish faces the reality of how young brown boys are treated in the UK, and must learn how to navigate a world of constant surveillance.

Featuring a lavish black-and-white presentation, the stark visuals complement the gritty drama as we follow a young boy’s battle with personal trauma and the realities of growing up in small-town England as a minority.

This film is part of our newest strand, Stories of Home, a BFI and National Lottery funded project which seeks to bring accessible screenings for communities across Swindon, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire over the next 12 months. Showcasing stories that explore film as a way for community and togetherness, while creating a welcoming and inclusive space encouraging connection with others.
