Please join us for an afternoon Interactive Workshop lead by Kristofer Zimmerman of Marstel-Day:
- Highlight the drivers for current DOD energy initiatives and impacts of local and state level energy projects and needs;
- Discuss siting and planning of energy projects on Military Installations with examples from Joint Base Andrews, Maryland; and
- Discuss funding approaches and potential public/private partnerships.
Followed by a networking happy hour, dinner, and keynote speaker. Schedule of events provided below.

Speaker Bio:
Mohammed (Mo) Badal joined the Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Army (OASA) for Installation, Energy, and Environment (IE&E) in April of 2024 and assumed the duties as the Program Manager for Nuclear Power. Currently, he is the Program Director for Advanced Nuclear Power for Installations for the Army. In his current capacity, he is leading a cross-functional team with members from several offices of Secretary of the Defense, Air Force, Navy, NRC, and DOE (including five national labs), exploring advanced nuclear energy sources for military installations.
Mo began his career as an enlisted Soldier at Fort Carson, CO in 1997; he was later honorably discharged as a staff sergeant and began his warrant officer career in December 2005. In his last assignment as Chief Warrant Officer 5, between June 2018 – July 2023, he served as Chief, Contingency Construction and Operational Energy Branch, within the Office of the Chief of Engineers (OCE) in Headquarters Department of the Army Staff (HQDA). During his tenure, he also established the Nuclear Power Branch of the Office of the Chief of Engineers in 2020 and served as an Operational Energy (OE) advisor since 2014.
After retiring in November of 2023, he joined Idaho National Laboratory (INL), as the program manager for defense use of Nuclear Energy.
Mo was born in Dhaka, Bangladesh but lived in NY before joining the US Army. Currently, he lives in the greater northern Virginia area with his wife, Dr. Kimberlee Belcher, of 19 years. They are proud to be raising two tremendous smart, responsible, kind children, Ilahn (12) and Ihsaan (15), who have called Virginia home for over seven years.
