About this Event
By the end of this presentation, attendees will be equipped to: (1) identify the unique challenges that LGBTQ+ older adult caregivers face when accessing social support and LGBTQ+ affirming care while providing care for individuals with MCI/ADRD; (2) describe the network compositions of LGBTQ+ older adult caregivers and how their relationships with care partners with MCI/ADRD or non-MCI/ADRD, age-related conditions influence both the caregivers' and care recipients' experiences and outcomes; and (3) propose evidence-based strategies, resources, and programs— such as cultivating support networks through “families of choice” or “chosen families”—to reduce caregiver burden and improve care access for LGBTQ+ older adult caregivers.
