This course will introduce the subject of Social Psychology. Over three sessions, you will explore the behaviour of individuals in their social and cultural setting, with a focus on how people’s thoughts, feelings and behaviours are influenced by the real, imagined or implicit presence of others.
Learners will understand what Social Psychology is and explore different areas of investigation that social psychologists seek to explain, including aggression, prosocial behaviour, attribution theory, prejudice, belonging, affiliation, proximity, the self, and relationships.
Discover many interesting experiments as some of the main theories of social psychology are presented. From exploring famous and influential studies, to discussing contemporary research, learners will engage with the study of human behaviour to gain a greater understanding of how and why we interact as we do.
By the end of the course, you will be able to:
- Define what Social Psychology is.
- State what Social Identity theory is.
- Describe different ‘effects’ relating to Attribution.
- Explain Milgram’s research on Obedience.
