How to Build and Scale a Community Through Social Media
In this talk, Jadesola will share practical and actionable insights on how to build and scale a thriving community using social media, drawing from my experience as the Community Manager at the Freelance Coalition for Developing Countries (FCDC).
Over the past few years, FCDC leveraged social platforms, particularly Twitter (now X), Linkedin and Slack to unite freelancers from diverse backgrounds into a global community focused on professional development, networking, and advocacy for better opportunities.
Building a successful community is not just about gaining followers; it’s about fostering meaningful connections, creating spaces where members feel valued, and providing continuous value that encourages engagement.
This session will break down the exact steps they took at FCDC to grow from a small group of freelancers (about 400 members when Jadesola joined) into a recognized and engaged community (3000+ members), all while navigating the challenges of limited resources and a global, remote membership base.
Key takeaways from the talk include:
-Finding Your Niche and Audience
- Building Engagement Strategies
- Sustaining Community Growth
- Scaling with Limited Resources (no budget)
