From Growing Up Disabled in Australia, edited by Carly Findlay, to Sofie Laguna’s Infinite Splendours, recent years have seen an upsurge in books dealing with disability and trauma. This workshop offers information, techniques and hands-on exercises to writers of fiction and creative non-fiction, providing a safe space to write disability or trauma as part of a beginning or established project.

The subject matter will suit writers of all experience, though delivery will not be therapeutic in intent.

Target Audience: Suitable for adult writers of fiction and creative non-fiction, including life writing, who are writing or wish to write about disability, including chronic pain, chronic illness and/or past trauma.

About the Facilitator

Josephine Taylor is an Associate Editor at Westerly Magazine and an Adjunct Senior Lecturer in Writing at Edith Cowan University. After developing chronic gynaecological pain in 2000, she was forced to surrender her career as a psychotherapist. Years later, research into the condition informed her prize-winning PhD thesis, an investigative memoir. Now, Josephine teaches in literary fiction and creative non-fiction, and presents on her writing, chronic disorder and creativity. Her critical and creative writing has been anthologised and published widely, including in Australian Book Review, Axon, Southerly and TEXT. Eye of a Rook (Fremantle Press, 2021) is her first novel.
