Start your new career with confidence

If you are contemplating changing careers to become a Garden Designer, but don’t really know where to begin, this day has been designed especially for you.

Join experts from the London College of Garden Design Melbourne based in the Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria, Melbourne Gardens to find out more about planting design, construction design, how designers communicate visually (including with computer aided design) and getting the best from your new career. You will also learn about career opportunities in the landscaping industry and receive tips and advice on how to pursue a successful future as a Garden Designer.

Our speakers

Brent Reid has been involved in the Australian landscaping industry for over 20 years as both a Garden Designer and Landscaper. He has won multiple awards for his many gardens including major shows in Melbourne, Sydney and Malaysia. He has spent time working as a Garden Designer abroad and his gardens are well known from the many features in the media. Brent is Director of the London College of Garden Design Melbourne which opened in the Royal Botanic Gardens, Victoria, Melbourne Gardens in March 2020. He also contributes regularly to garden media, is a tour leader for Ross Garden Tours and a member of the Chartered Institute of Horticulture.

Martin Semken is the founder of Semken Landscaping, established in 1987 and growing to have an outstanding reputation as one of the top Landscape Construction companies in Victoria which is testament to the skills of Martin and his staff. Semken Landscaping work in collaboration with many of Victoria’s leading Garden Designers and employs some of the most highly skilled personnel within the landscaping industry. Their reputation for show gardens has led to an impressive list of awards.

Andrew Fisher Tomlin is a UK based Chartered Horticulturist and Fellow of both the Chartered Institute of Horticulture and the Society of Garden Designers. He is well known for the creation of gardens and parks worldwide and has won multiple awards for his work. Andrew teaches on our Garden Design Program both online and in-person and is a Director of the London College of Garden Design based in the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. He is a passionate advocate for professional skills training, encouraging young talent and working with a number of organisations to promote education and careers in horticulture and design. Andrew will be joining for part of the event online from London.

We will also be joined by joined by a Graduate and Student of LCGD Melbourne to hear their experience of studying to become a Garden Designer in Australia.
