Title : Breaking the HTTP Barrier: S3 Object Storage at RDMA Speed for the AI Era"

Abstract
Object storage won the AI data lake on scalability, simplicity, and cost — but not on speed. S3's HTTP/TCP foundation was never designed for microsecond latencies or the hundreds of gigabytes per second that modern GPU clusters demand, and as accelerators sit idle waiting on data, that decades-old tradeoff is finally being challenged.
This talk surveys the fast-emerging landscape of S3-compatible access over RDMA transports: how an HTTP-native protocol is being re-architected for kernel-bypass, zero-copy networking without breaking the S3 API that AI teams already depend on. We'll unpack the common design pattern taking shape across the industry — keeping S3 metadata and control operations on HTTP/TCP while moving object payloads directly over RDMA into GPU memory — and what it means for throughput, latency, and CPU efficiency at scale.
We'll then look at how vendors and open-standards efforts (including NVIDIA's RDMA for S3-compatible storage and a growing set of storage platforms) are converging on interoperable approaches, the hard problems that remain around standardization and multi-tenancy, and where S3-over-RDMA is headed as object storage steps up to become a first-class, high-performance tier for AI training and inference.

Speakers:

Jayapaul Paul — Lead Architect, Everpure

Jayapaul Paul is a Lead Architect at Everpure (formerly Pure Storage), based in Bangalore at the company's India headquarters. His work centers on the technologies powering high-performance AI and data infrastructure — GPU Direct Storage, NFS-over-RDMA, KV cache, multitenancy, and observability — with a focus on delivering high throughput, low latency, and cost efficiency at exascale.
Jayapaul brings more than two decades of systems and storage engineering experience. Before Everpure, he held progressively senior software engineering roles at Nutanix, EMC — where he developed microcode for the Symmetrix range of enterprise storage — and NXP Semiconductors. This deep background across semiconductors, enterprise storage, and hyperconverged infrastructure informs his architectural approach to modern data-path design.
A frequent voice on AI infrastructure, Jayapaul has spoken at industry forums including Nasscom's Tech Developer Confluence, where he presented "Breaking Bottlenecks in AI: RDMA, KV Cache, and Direct Data Paths at Scale." He holds an MTech in Computer Science from BITS Pilani.

A Lead Enterprise Architect with over a decade of experience specializing in the design and implementation of mission-critical datacenter infrastructures. Currently leading systems engineering initiatives at Hitachi Systems India, my work focuses on the intersection of high-availability storage architectures and business-centric data management, particularly within the highly regulated Banking and Financial Services sectors.
For the past 8 years, I have been dedicated to articulating and executing advanced enterprise storage and data protection visions. My technical focus areas include: Data Resiliency & Availability.
Expert in designing infrastructures, focusing on data mobility, hybrid-cloud tiering, and protocol interoperability (Fibre Channel, NVMe/FC, and NAS). and implementing robust data protection frameworks based on the 3-2-1-1-0 rule, with a specific emphasis on Cyber Resiliency and immutable storage architectures to combat evolving ransomware threats.
As a TOGAF Enterprise Architecture-certified professional, I bridge the gap between low-level technical specifications and high-level enterprise frameworks. I am a strong advocate for discovery-led consulting—ensuring that infrastructure standards are not just technically sound but are fundamentally aligned with long-term data sovereignty and governance goals. I am committed to the evolution of storage networking standards and fostering a culture of technical excellence within engineering sales teams to meet the demands of the next generation of data-centric enterprises.
