About this Event
Join us in-person at The International Civil Rights Center & Museum (Greensboro, NC) on Saturday, December 14th from 2:00pm - 4:00 p.m. for the SNCC Learning Toolkit Workshop: Exploring Freedom Teaching in the Civil Rights Movement. This event is part of the discussion series, generously supported by a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities. Freedom Teaching is closely tied to the organizing tradition and SNCC's approach to social change. It is both deeply embedded in the day-to-day work and modeled in particular projects, like the Citizenship Schools and the Freedom Schools. At its heart, Freedom Teaching is student- and skill-centered. SNCC's Freedom Schools remain a crucial model for many progressive educators, while the "freedom teaching" embedded in the work of the organizing tradition is crucial to the larger project of creating a more perfect union, one that involves developing the participation and skills of a broad constituency.
Join us for this interactive Learning Toolkit workshop. Participants will dig into documents and audiovisual materials, learn about Voting Rights in SNCC’s movement building, and collectively explore how those lessons might be relevant today. This workshop is geared toward educators, civic organizations, community or activist groups, librarians, youth—or anyone who wants to learn more.
