When Rukmini Devi Arundale founded Kalakshetra in 1936, she didn’t set out to create a new style of Bharatanatyam, yet the Kalakshetra bani emerged—an approach that blended classical purity with innovative storytelling, redefining tradition with a modern sensibility.Smriti Pravah, a tribute to her legacy, was curated by Kalakshetra alumna Swagata Sen Pillai to unite students worldwide in honor of their guru. After her untimely passing, Tripti Bhupen and Archita Mehta have carried forward this tradition.This year, NrityaSadhana Centre for Bharatanatyam and Indian Folk Dances, along with Samarpan School of Performing Arts, take a journey into Rukmini Devi’s creative world, preserving tradition while embracing innovation.The performance unfolds in two parts—one showcasing margam pieces choreographed by her direct disciples and the other delving into her timeless dance dramas.Featuring Kalakshetra alumni: Archita Mehta, Tripti Bhupen, Gayatri Krishnaveni Lakshmanan, Vasundhara Thomas, Priyashri Rao, Lasya Priya R, and Nrithika B Natesh.
