Smile of a Summer ShPIeL Showcase

LOUISVILLE, KY., June 3, 2024— ShPIeL-Performing Identity announces the second annual summer theatrical showcase, Smiles of a Summer ShPIeL Showcase, highlighting Jewish and intersectional plays/performances of diversity — full and short plays, new and old, comedy and drama, and musical cabaret — spread out over three performance dates (see below) to add to your summer entertainment. Also included will be discussions for thought, the heart, spirit and connection.

Thursday, July 25 at 7 pm, — a staged reading of Who Will Carry the Word? by Charlotte Delbo in collaboration with the Bellarmine Theatre Department. Based on Delbo’s own experience as a POW in Auschwitz, this play explores the experience of women in Auschwitz, confronting the necessity of at least one person’s survival to tell the truth of their stories.

Friday, July 26 6:45 with a wide variety of new short play readings from local and national playwrights, including ADD. Comic, tragic, and deeply relatable, these plays run the gamut of the human experience.

Sunday, July 28, 4 pm Singer Arlecia Ebert from Chicago performs a variety of music from Black, Jewish, and intersectional artists, including favorites from Into the Woods and West Side Story. Following will be standup comedy from Louisville favorite Keith McGill and ADD.
