About this Event

CASTeL (Centre for the Advancement of STEM Teaching and Learning) is delighted to host the 2026 SMEC STEM Education Conference.

This year’s theme, "The Human Element in STEM Education: Community, Innovation, and Sustainability," addresses the converging crises of climate breakdown and the opportunities of technological advancement. We invite researchers, policymakers, and educators to explore how scientific inquiry, mathematical reasoning, and engineering design can foster a resilient future.

Key Highlights:

Keynote Speakers: Featuring Prof. Wouter van Joolingen (Utrecht University), Dr. Ulrika Sultan (Chalmers University of Technology), and Prof. Lucy Avraamidou (University of Groningen).

Core Themes: Engage with four integrated strands:

  1. Planetary Health & Action: Climate solutions, biodiversity, and social responsibility.
  2. Digital Horizons: AI in education, ethical tools, and future skills.
  3. Inclusive Communities: Equity, identity, and broadening participation in STEM.
  4. Innovative Pedagogies: Interdisciplinary approaches (STEAM), active learning, and assessment.

Join us and connect with the global STEM education community!
